About the Role
As the Principal Business Partner, you will play a key role in shaping the Innovation Delivery strategy across assets, joint ventures, and business development to align emerging technologies with asset challenges and future industry needs. Reporting to the Head of Innovation Delivery Minerals Australia, you will collaborate with senior stakeholders and various functional teams to drive innovation, strategic alignment, and operational readiness.
Acting as a strategic connector between operations and innovation, you will challenge conventional thinking and envision to redefine the future of mining. As part of a global, future focused team, you will bring a bold and collaborative mindset to unlock tomorrow’s resources while ensuring alignment with current needs and long-term operational goals.
You will work closely with Assets and functions leadership teams, TAD (Think and Act Differently), and other functional partners to ensure the effective identification, development, and integration of emerging technologies that transform how we operate.
This position will be ideally based in a BHP Office either in Adelaide. There is domestic travel with this position. This is a full-time position.
Key responsibilities will include:
Opportunity framing, Solution Design & Delivery: Develop business cases for strategic decisions, negotiates beneficial outcomes, communicates value drivers, measures opportunity value, and aligns selections with Asset goals.
Strategic Partnership: The Principal Business Partner is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders. This includes understanding their needs, aligning business objectives, and ensuring that the partnership delivers mutual benefits. Use strategic thinking and evidence-based decision making to evaluate innovation opportunities, define value drivers, and determine investment viability.
Stakeholder Engagement: Manage diverse stakeholders, influence strategic agendas, align innovation portfolios, facilitate engagements on innovation pilots, and ensure smooth transition of initiatives for deployment. Build and maintain strong relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including technical experts, site leadership teams, and global innovation partners.
Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication and collaboration are essential in this role. The Principal Business Partner works closely with various departments and teams, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals.
Continuous Improvement: The Principal Business Partner is committed to continuous improvement, seeking out opportunities to enhance processes, systems, and outcomes. This involves staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
About You
- Experience in Mining or related fields in a managerial role (desired).
- Ability to manage cross-functional coordination and resolve complex issues across departments.
- Strong and effective communications skills with experience preparing for, writing, and presenting to Senior Management and Business leaders
- Demonstrated experience identifying early-stage opportunities where innovation can address business pain points or unlock new value.
- Strong analytical skills, specifically translating multiple sources of information into value and recommend course of action
- Strong strategic acumen to define key value drivers and evaluate boundaries of an opportunity before recommending investment.
- Effective problem-solving skills to address challenges and obstacles with innovative solutions and make decisions that drive the business forward.
- Excellent Project Management skills. Capable of operating both independently and collaboratively in projects involving multiple workstreams and stakeholders
- Proven ability to support successful on-site demonstration projects in collaboration with other teams to drive value realization (desired).
