PERTH OFFICE

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions, including HR, Legal and External Affairs, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent, Full-Time position, Monday -Friday. This role will preferably be at our corporate office in the heart of the Perth CBD and Brisbane will be considered for the right candidate. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)

As the Principal Business Planner, you will coordinate the Opportunity Assessment (OA) and Life of Operation Plan (LoOP), bringing all strategic, operational, and functional elements together for the GEMCO Operation, including costs, capital expenditure, marketing and sales, development projects, sustainability and community plans. This ensures the long-term plan is a fully dynamic blueprint for the operation to reach its full value potential. 

Reporting to the Group Manager Planning, other key responsibilities include;

  • Contribution to all other Planning deliverables including the Medium Term Plan (MTP), Resources and Reserves, Concept Studies and Closure Planning.
  • Contribution to the Corporate Planning calendar activities including Capital Prioritisation and Finance led forecasting processes.
  • Provide technical, operational, and commercial support and challenge to the Operation, Major Projects, and other Functions.
  • Owns the cost model for greater than 2 year planning horizon.
  • Contributes and ensures the Risk Management process is effective and optimal.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a mining or natural resources technical role, with two years’ experience at Operations.
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and delivery of robust business outcomes
  • Process-driven with an agile mindset to ensure quality and pointed deliverables.
  • Works intimately with our Operational and Functional stakeholders to ensure the robustness of plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills, specifically translating multiple sources of information into value and recommend course of action.
  • Ability to work with complexity and ambiguity to present risk vs reward decision making.
  • Experience in developing C-suite and board-level documents/presentations.  
  • Relevant experience in Business Planning will be highly regarded.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Relevant degree (mining/processing/industrial/etc. engineering, accounting or business), or the equivalent of qualification gained through practical experience
  • Second degree or postgraduate preferred (MBA, marketing or business)
