About GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is a South32 Company, the operation is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

About the role

This is a permanent full-time role being offered on Monday-Thursday 4:3 roster from Darwin or Cairns. FIFO out of Brisbane on alternative rosters will be considered.

Domestic relocation to Darwin or Cairns from anywhere in Australia provided. Residential on Groote Eylandt will be considered.

You’ll be responsible for Civil and Structural engineering standards, specifications, and procedures at GEMCO.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

• Provide Civil and Structural design expertise for steelwork, concrete, mechanical support structures and infrastructure – existing plant and infrastructure, and new projects
• Develop and maintain the governance systems and processes to control Civil and Structural Engineering standards across the GEMCO operation
• Provide expert working knowledge of Civil and Structural calculations and design packages and can undertake and check calculation work from first principals
• Provide expert understanding and working knowledge of Australian Standards that may impact or govern the GEMCO Operation

To be considered for the role, you will have:

• Prior experience in a similar role, preferably within an operating asset
• Ability to apply safety, health, and environmental Principals and procedures in a workplace and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current legislation
• Expertise in producing complex and detailed engineering drawings
• Demonstrated understanding of the fundamentals of project management
• Strong communication and consultative skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Eligible for RPEQ or CPEng
• Class C Driver’s License
