Principal Closure Studies - Communications

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking expressions of interest to join our Closure Team as a Principal – Closure Studies Communications. This is a permanent position, offering flexible workplace arrangements on a Monday to Friday Perth-based roster. Fixed-term secondment opportunities for internal staff will also be considered.

Reporting to the Manager Mine Closure, we are looking for an experienced science communications officer to communicate complex scientific principles and engineering mine closure designs to external stakeholders including local communities.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Lead communication and engagement strategy development for mine development and closure to support relationship managers’ community engagement.
  • Work with technical staff (mine planning, water, geology) to develop and deliver a range of communication tools, aids, workshops etc. for multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and priorities, and ensure deliverables are appropriate for internal and external needs

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand scientific information and present it in a user-friendly way
  • Experience with different communication tools / aids and different audience communication styles and cultures
  • Role requires experienced project manager with an ability to innovate and adapt well to agile environments
  • Experience in mining, cultural heritage or environmental management would be advantageous
