Title: Principal Commercial – Green Industry

Work location: Perth

Roster: Mon to Fri

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Commercial to drive the commercial outcomes for the green industry business and support the green industry team in the acceleration of its highly ambitious project portfolio and technology deployment.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Principal Commercial will assist and lead the negotiation and management of commercial arrangements to effectively meet organisational and business objectives in accordance with FFI’s strategy.

Commercial activities may include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, material contracts, partnerships and projects. Due to the new and broad range of commercial arrangements that you will be putting together, you will need to apply your commercial skills, creativity, and experience to achieve optimum outcomes for the business. You will be supported by a team of subject matter experts from across FFI and the broader green industry commercial team.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop commercial opportunities that are aligned with corporate strategic objectives in ammonia, hydrogen, renewable energy and battery projects
  • Deliver key early-stage project development and Joint Venture establishment deliverables.
  • Prepare for, and participate in, meetings and negotiations with external parties
  • Provide a proactive role in the due diligence process for potential opportunities
  • Support the business in delivering value through the commercialisation of zero emission solutions in heavy mining equipment and rail opportunities, including negotiating appropriate agreements and ensuring opportunities are underpinned by sound commercial logic and appropriate process
  • Prepare management reports and presentations to seek funding for project development, working closely with other teams within Fortescue
  • Identify and create opportunities for value creation in all negotiations and commercial arrangements across the green industry portfolio
  • Developing and communicating best practice commercial tools for use across the FFI businesses and regions.
  • Managing a portfolio of high value, business relationships
  • Shaping negotiations and providing direction with regards to the development, implementation, and management of contracts to ensure alignment with strategic business objectives
  • Providing clear recommendations, underpinned by sound business cases (intimate knowledge of project / opportunity economics) focused on long term value creation
  • Compiling agreement documentation and developing risk-based recommendations for agreement execution

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Business or Law
  • Management consulting background, advantageous
  • [10] years relevant experience in managing and negotiation of complex commercial contracts, including development of strategy and tactics.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently assess feasibility and soundness of commercial opportunities
  • Excellent problem solving, creativity, decision making, data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence people and projects, contributing to not only commercial delivery but also influencing other areas of the business and company to achieve success
  • Proven track record of efficient execution of complex transactions.
  • Extensive experience in a fast-paced commercial function
  • Extensive experience from the energy generation or infrastructure sector
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders
  • High levels of self-motivation
  • Ability to be agile and resilient when managing diverse workloads with multiple priorities, and delivering work to a high quality and on time
  • Able to work independently, whilst also engaging and collaborating in line with the FFI values
