The Opportunity – Principal Communications - Worsley Alumina - Based in Collie, South-West of WA

Using industry leading experience, you will design and execute communications activities that protect and enhance Worsley Alumina’s reputation within its communities of influence while supporting high levels of engagement between the site leadership team and employees.
Located in the picturesque south-west and Peel regions of Western Australia, South32 Worsley Alumina is on a journey to become the world’s leading Alumina producer where our 1500 workforce value the lifestyle that Worsley Alumina has to offer.
Our integrated Bauxite Mine, Alumina Refinery and Port Operation is creating the essential products needed for a sustainable low carbon future.
This role will be offered on a Permanent, full-time basis.
Location
This role will be based at our Worsley Alumina Refinery which is a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (35 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.
As there is no accommodation on site, you will be required to drive in, drive out on a daily basis. Employees ideally live within an hour’s drive of Collie.
Accountabilities
Primary responsibilities are to:
- Designing, developing and implementing innovative and engaging a communications strategy, inclusive of internal communications, external communications, community investment, stakeholder engagement, government engagement and liaison with relevant industry bodies/associations that aligns with South32’s values
- Maintain oversight of communications activities across all operational locations including the Port (Bunbury), Refinery (Collie) and Mine (Boddington) for Worsley Alumina
- Supporting leaders at Worsley to embed a safety culture that guarantees our people go home safe and well every shift.
- Maintaining relationships with local stakeholders to proactively share Worsley’s contribution to the Southwest and Peel Regions
About You
- Qualification in Communications, Public Relations or a related field
- Accomplished and persuasive written and verbal communication skills including the ability to simplify complex, technical information into straightforward messaging suitable for a range of audiences
- Ability to manage timely media and communications deliverables
- Several years’ experience in Corporate Affairs / Communications or related discipline
- Event management experience preferred
- Experience working in industrial, or mining organisations is preferred
