About the Role

  NSW Energy Coal is a mine-to-market thermal coal business with operations in New South Wales (NSW). Our culture benefits from technical know-how, pragmatism and a sustainable delivery focus. 

In mid-2022, BHP made the decision to prepare the Mt Arthur Coal mine for closure in 2030. This creates a unique opportunity to work with the community on an equitable approach to managing the change this will bring to Muswellbrook and the Hunter Region. Working closely with the transition team, this role is responsible for developing and implementing plans to support the community through transition to closure of the mine.  The role will be responsible for leading NSWEC’s engagement with the community, delivering social investment and sustainable development programs within the context of preparing for closure, as well as supporting the site operational teams with day-to-day interactions with the local community. We invite you to join us at this important time in BHP’s history as we bring people and resources together to build a better world.   Key points include:  •    Permanent, full-time role based in the Hunter Valley •    Unique opportunity to be part of creating a positive legacy for the Upper Hunter region •    Opportunity to design and execute plans and  programs to deliver meaningful change •    Effective stakeholder engagement, issues management and communication skills will be key to success in this role.   Reporting to the NSW Energy Coal Manager Corporate Affairs, responsibilities will include:  •    Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with key community stakeholders and organisations •    Developing and executing plans to support the community through change, including engagement approaches aligned to BHP’s equitable change and transition principles •    Driving strategic partnerships to contribute to positive socio-economic outcomes •    Identification and management of emerging community and reputational risks and issues, both in an operational and closure context •    Oversight of community complaints and grievances process as well as supporting other regulatory reporting requirements

About You

To be successful in this role you shall possess: •    Academic qualifications or extensive relevant experience at a senior level in the community relations field •    Ability to plan strategically and to manage the successful delivery of multiple projects  •    Strong team player that is able to work with minimal supervision while utilising and contributing to the strengths of the team to achieve success •    Able to adapt to changing environments with competing priorities and complex issues •    Understanding of key issues including human rights, Indigenous Peoples, and the concept of shared or social value
