About the Role

The Principal, Data Privacy and Compliance role is a key contributor to the success in maintaining trust through responsible handling of data. The role is responsible for leading the operation of our Data Privacy & Data Ethics (DPDE) Office to manage the delivery of BHP’s obligations as well as monitoring compliance against BHP’s data privacy, data sovereignty and data ethics frameworks.    With a focus on ongoing improvement and data driven controls monitoring, the core accountabilities are as follows:

  • Manage and drive scale-up of global systems and processes to support the delivery of data privacy services and compliance monitoring operations across BHP
  • Lead implementation of the Data Privacy, Data Sovereignty and Data Ethics compliance universe to deliver innovative and data driven compliance monitoring activities   
  • Lead ongoing monitoring and improvement to BHP’s Data Privacy training and awareness strategy 
  • Engage with key senior stakeholders and deliver innovative reporting to provide insight around BHP’s data privacy compliance levels. 

About You

Our ideal candidate is an individual who is highly organised, has strong interpersonal and communication skills and has experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.  It is expected that applicants possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either information systems, finance, legal, accounting, engineering, science and technology studies, computer science or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated understanding of compliance monitoring and/or controls assurance
  • Experience in project managing process improvement and systems implementations.

Additionally, the following skills and qualiifications are highly desirable:

  • Professional qualifications including CIPM, CISA, CIMP, CIPP
  • Experience in designing and implementing data driven analytics and dashboarding activities
  • Knowledge of Data privacy laws and obligations
