We are looking for a Principal Data Product Owner who will be responsible for defining and delivering data products focused on delivering business value. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders, it will be your role to understand and prioritise data needs, and then turn those needs into actionable product plans.

This is a great opportunity to serve as the primary point of contact for all data product-related matters, and be accountable for the overall success and governance of key data products within Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

Reporting to the Manager Core Processes & Knowledge Management and working in a collaborative community within Knowledge, Information & Technology, you will:

  • Understand and translate business needs into data product requirements
  • Prioritise and manage the data product backlog, ensuring alignment with business goals
  • Act as a liaison between the data science and engineering teams, and other stakeholders
  • Partner with stakeholders to proactively drive financial evaluations of data products. Coordinate and build business valuations for RTIO data products
  • Provide senior management with relevant, detailed, accurate and timely financial analysis to influence and shape data product strategy
  • Work with data engineers to design, build, and implement data products
  • Continuously monitor and analyse data product performance and make recommendations for improvements
  • Ensure data products are aligned with company's data governance policies and practices
  • Communicate data product status and progress to key stakeholders
