Principal - Decarbonisation (Procurement)
Work Location: Fortescue Centre & Bennett St. Fortescue’s Perth offices are located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.
Roster: Monday to Friday

As the Decarbonisation Principal, you are passionate, curious, enthusiastic, and willing to step-up to the challenge of being part of an innovative and achievement-driven organisation. The Principal is a key leadership role in the Procurement Decarbonisation team, contributing cross-functional expertise, direction to meet business needs, sets the Company’s Procurement Decarbonisation strategy, and accustomed to adapting to ambiguity and uncertainty.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive the development and implementation of the long-term strategy for Procurement Decarbonisation and coordinate execution and transition planning across all Company’s categories of products and services
- Represent the Procurement function in strategic internal and external meetings, provide advice to key stakeholders on Procurement Decarbonisation scope, encourage innovative practices and support delivery of business and policy guidelines
- Develop solid relationships with critical suppliers and influence internal stakeholders to maximise business and decarbonisation outcomes
- Governance and risk management - ensure business objectives are met through effective governance, compliance management and the identification, assessment, and treatment of risk
- Develop supplier emissions reporting approach to improve Company’s Scope 3 reporting accuracy
- Lead negotiations as part of a cross-functional team on high impact, complex supply arrangements and contract issues to deliver towards Fortescue’s decarbonisation targets
- Develop and maintain program and project management requirements, including status reporting for management on decarbonisation activities
- Lead and develop team members in order to support talent management initiatives
Qualifications and Experience:
- At least 7- 10 years' experience in Procurement and Contract Management roles within Mining or similar industries with solid exposure to decarbonisation and project management, problem solving and customer/supplier relationship management skills
- 5 years or more experience managing Procurement teams or similar roles
- Ability to think strategically and lead multi-functional change management processes
- Understanding of emissions reporting and accounting
- Working knowledge of climate change, greenhouse gases and related sustainability risks is beneficial
- A strong mix of commercial acumen with proven category, problem solving and a can-do attitude
- Ability to communicate and influence effectively verbally, and in written form (PowerPoint) with both internal and external stakeholders at a senior level
- Strong self-management/performance capabilities, organisation skills and priority management skills
- Flexibility and creativity - ability to adopt new methods to deliver outcomes and challenge existing paradigms
