About the Role

As a division of Planning and Technical, our newly established Strategic Services team will partner with Asset leaders to deliver complex operational decarbonisation solutions. Our objective, which is reliant on the rapid development of suitable technologies, is to reduce our operational emissions by at least 30 per cent from the level they were in 2020.

We are seeking experienced project professionals for the role of Principal Decarbonisation Program. Reporting to the Manager Program Integration, this is an exciting opportunity for a high performing individual to work with a range of diverse stakeholders and make a significant contribution to BHP’s future decarbonisation ambitions.

Key to success will be your ability to work in partnership with a wide range of senior internal stakeholders. The role requires a dynamic, strategic and business focussed professional who can effectively deliver our integrated roadmap, in line with BHP’s Charter Values, investment process and requirements whilst maintaining an overriding commitment to Health, Safety & Environment. 

Key experience and attributes will include:

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with senior leaders as well as leading cross-functional teams through mature engagement, communication and influencing skills
  • Project leadership roles delivering complex programs ensuring business wide alignment to confirm cost, schedule and business benefit assumptions are appropriately reflected in Asset targets and business planning cycles
  • Demonstrated experience in business case development, and value optimisation, so that the program is competitive and pragmatically delivered to budget, schedule and agreed customer expectations i.e., desired business outcomes and benefits are achieved
  • Assisting with on-program governance including preparation of Steering Committee papers, other stakeholder briefing materials, supporting investment approval and governance processes, and coordinating Independent Peer Reviews
  • Forming and managing multidisciplinary teams (not necessarily with direct authority over team members) to leverage the full suite of technical capabilities 

About You

You will have achieved a higher education qualification, preferably combined with post-graduate study in an engineering or project management related discipline. With previous exposure in a similar role, you will be able to establish credibility through your strong technical ability, leadership and excellent communication skills. You will be comfortable working in complex matrix work environments and as an experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and influencing teams and individuals, you will bring a strong understanding of a program’s life-cycle to deliver safe, capital-efficient and sustainable operational outcomes.

Performance and achievement orientated, you work well under pressure, bringing a high attention to detail and the consistent ability to meet deadlines. Your technical strengths will be complimented by excellent engagement and communication skills. Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders. Location

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower – ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern, open plan office which hosts state of the art facilities including modern video conferencing and meeting facilities, private and breakout meeting facilities, a modern and secure crèche, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.

Occasional national (and potentially international) travel is required.
