About the role
In this newly created role, we are seeking a Principal Digital Software Eng & MinAus to join the BHP Technology Strategy, Portfolio & Performance (SPP) team. Reporting to the Manager Digital Strategy, this role will advance software engineering practices across BHP globally, with a focused coaching responsibility into Minerals Australia (MinAus) software delivery teams.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Understand BHP's global Technology team landscape, focusing on the future-facing technical guidance needed to guide and enable software teams and their short-term delivery priorities, and long-term evolution and sustainability
- Lead the development BHP’s software engineering framework in support of global digital transformation priorities
- Collaborate with Digital ways-of-working leads, Testing Strategy lead, Digital Tech lead and key Technology stakeholders to create a holistic design for digital capabilities that pairs technical tooling, software excellence and DevOps with Agile for a complete digital organisation strategy
- Establish pragmatic and flexible software standards that appreciates the varying current-state maturity of delivery teams, while balancing the need to advance towards a strategic target-state reference for mature contemporary software engineering
- Identify and plan for software engineering strategic improvements, using artefacts such as roadmaps, maturity milestones and metrics, to guide transformation across technology teams
- Identify and implement mechanisms of reuse, knowledge sharing, synergies and collaboration between software delivery teams to improve delivery velocity
- Work across the SPP team to define digital transformation roadmap targets (including those related to data, cloud, platforms, identity etc.) with the purpose of advancing software engineering maturity, productivity and sustainability
- Partner with MinAus software teams to understand current-state priorities to be addressed across the DevSecOps lifecycle, though enabling enterprise, global and platform team service improvements
The role can be based at our Perth or Brisbane Office.
About you
As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:
- Diverse and demonstrated contemporary experiences working in software engineering, SDLC, and software development frameworks
- Experience working on digital transformations of large, complex and distributed organisation
- Strong consulting and advisory skills ranging from analysis, strategy development, senior stakeholder engagement, influencing, facilitation and consensus building
- Informed points of view on how evolving software engineering trends can create scaled business impact
- Relevant undergraduate qualifications in a technical discipline, preferably Engineering or Technology/IT
