Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) is an integrated system of four processing hubs and five mines, connected by more than 1,000 kilometres of rail infrastructure and port facilities in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia.​

Our iron ore business includes integrated iron ore mines, rail and port operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia: South Flank, Jimblebar, Newman Operations, Port Hedland Ports, Yandi, Mining Area C.

About the Role

This role is part of our BHP Project Centre of Excellence (PCoE) team supporting our Western Australia Major Projects. The purpose of this role is to provides technical expertise in leading engineering strategies, standards and frameworks that ensure the engineering process and design is optimised and enables safe, efficient construction, commissioning and operation. Reporting to Manager Standards and Technical, your accountabilities will include:

  • Applies an understanding of discipline specific engineering related terminology, theory, key processes and activities (e.g. electrical, instrumentation & control etc.). 
  • Determines minimum quality requirements, executes quality management plans and reviews quality control activities to enable the achievement of quality objectives across BHP projects. 
  • Conducts engineering tasks, verifies construction methodologies and advises on engineering decisions for projects in alignment with Project/Construction/Commissioning Engineering Standards 
  • Employs specific/relevant discipline engineering expertise and leadership to meet BHP's technical expectations.
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems. 
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Identifies and assesses risks, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
  • Plans, tracks the delivery of and manages a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes. 
  • Prioritises work effort and resources accordingly. 
  • Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation. 
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste. 
  • Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in Operational site-based role with exposure to safe work procedures and operational practices.
  • Experience in Project roles across engineering, construction and commissioning.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge on power distribution, industrial motor control, instrumentation and process control systems.
  • University degree qualified in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
  • TUV Functional Safety Engineer certified (desirable).
  • Excellent communication skill with ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with technical experts.

Location and Roster

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.  You will be working on Monday-Friday roster. Flexible work is also offered.
