Principal Engineer
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue Centre & Bennett St - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: (5:2) Monday - Friday
We are currently seeking highly motivated Principal Engineer to join our Strategic Planning Team. This role will be responsible for a range of projects across pre-feasibility Studies, Optimisation and improvements across our existing sites and scoping studies
To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with good understanding of both operational and planning functions within the mining industry, including the technical and support functions that support these areas. The candidate will possess strong technical skills and being able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works to the relevant stakeholders.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Planning, execution and delivery of planned studies; objectively, efficiently and effectively by coordinating deliverables from across a broad group of technical and support teams
- Finding and assessing innovative solutions that add value within mining and infrastructure areas
- Assist in building and maintaining processes, tools and systems to analyse options and the impacts to the existing, and potential future, infrastructure and operations to inform business case inputs
- Business case development for studies including sensitivity and risk analysis for the key drivers
- Liaise with technical support functions to understand risk and opportunities to the proposed operations and to enable timely achievement of study milestones
- The role will also interact with internal operational and functional stakeholders and will be expected to effectively manage integration and coordination with operating activities
Qualifications and skills required:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or similar discipline
- Minimum 10 years in mineral processing industry with direct operational/ technical development experience with producer, ideally over 5 yrs process engineering experience on major mineral processing projects working on materials handling, crushing, screening and wet beneficiation process plant (especially physical separation unit processes)
- Demonstrated experience in most major components of mining project studies and development
- Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus with practical alignment to reality
- Excellent problem-solving skills and continual improvement focus
