Work Location:  Perth, Western Australia.  Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster:  Monday to Friday.

 

Fortescue is seeking an exceptional engineering leader to shape the future of mine closure and rehabilitation across our global operations. As Principal Landform Design Engineer – Closure & Rehabilitation, you will be recognised as the technical authority for closure landform design, providing strategic leadership that influences how rehabilitation and mine closure are planned, designed and delivered throughout the life of our operations.

 

Reporting to the Manager Closure and Rehabilitation, this is a highly influential role that combines engineering expertise, innovation and long-term strategic thinking. You will establish engineering standards, develop leading-practice landform designs, influence Life of Mine planning, and partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable, practical and cost-effective closure outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to leave a lasting environmental legacy while helping shape industry-leading rehabilitation practices across one of the world's largest iron ore operations.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development and governance of Fortescue's closure landform engineering standards, design methodologies and technical frameworks across all operations.
  • Develop and oversee detailed rehabilitation and closure landform designs that support progressive rehabilitation and long-term mine closure strategies.
  • Provide specialist engineering leadership and technical assurance to mine planning teams, ensuring closure objectives are embedded within 10-Year and Life of Mine planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the development of innovative tools, processes and standards that improve rehabilitation outcomes, planning accuracy and cost forecasting.
  • Lead technical engagement with operational teams, regulators, consultants and contractors to deliver practical, compliant and sustainable closure solutions.
  • Provide technical oversight of closure landform quality, engineering governance and rehabilitation performance, while mentoring technical teams and building organisational capability.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Extensive experience in mining engineering, mine closure and complex landform design, with demonstrated expertise operating as a recognised technical authority within the resources sector.
  • Proven success leading landform design across large-scale mining operations, with iron ore experience highly regarded.
  • Advanced capability using industry-standard design software including Vulcan, Deswik and ArcGIS, supported by a comprehensive understanding of mine planning and closure practices.
  • Strong engineering judgement with proven ability to interpret complex technical information, influence strategic outcomes and provide technical sign-off on engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders across technical, operational, regulatory and executive levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining or Civil preferred). Postgraduate qualifications in mine closure, geotechnical engineering or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
