About the Role

We are currently seeking a Principal Engineer Portfolio to join our team at Mining Area C. This is a permanent position offered on a 5/2, 4/3 FIFO roster from Perth. Flexible working arrangements can also be considered. 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is to take responsibility for the development and management of the Capital Portfolio and challenge Capital Project submissions against Business objectives whilst ensuring the quality of Opportunity Assessments. You will provide support to the Project Specialists for the safe and efficient delivery of projects through their lifecycle in line with BHP standards and requirements and optimisz value for BHP. You will coach and develop the team to ensure projects are clearly defined.

You will liaise with Site Operational teams along with three additional project delivery groups (PDG) providing guidance and support in developing and maintaining the Capital Budget and Portfolio. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Operational and PDG Managers and Superintendents to build the capital pipeline
  • Manage the development of the Capex portfolio & 2 year budget (2YB)
  • Analysis of the business case and Investment Approval Request for projects
  • Challenge Project requests against Business Objectives
  • Undertake development of Site Operational Teams proficiency in Opportunity Assessment submissions
  • Present monthly Capital updates to Leadership teams(s)
  • Ensure that progress on the nominated projects is monitored and status of those projects is reported regularly.
  • Ensure that action is taken to address deviations from the adopted project program and Budget.
  • Prioritise capital projects for endorsement by the Business in liaison with the Engineering manager
  • Carry out investigations of Capital Project spend variations prior to supporting requests for additional funds
  • Support the ongoing development and management of financial systems, business processes, internal controls and quality improvement strategies with respect to the Capital Portfolio and Budget

About You

As the successful applicant you will possess the following:

Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary/Degree qualification in Project Management or experience delivering capital projects (Desired)
  • High Level of knowledge in Capital Portfolio Management and Budgeting
  • High level of stakeholder management  
  • High Level communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong capability in developing and delivering presentations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite and Primavera P6
  • Demonstrated written and oral English language proficiency
  • Knowledge of procedures related to the execution of engineering projects
