About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists in our global MECoE Engineering team. We are actively seeking the talents of a highly capable and experienced Fire Engineer. Reporting to the Manager Engineering G&TS, the Principal Engineering G&TS (Fire Engineer), will play an integral role in defining global requirements and standards, maintain knowledge and application of industry leading practices and technological developments, and nurture collaborative business partnerships to drive key business outcomes.

In this challenging and highly visible Principal role, you will:

  • Define and continuously improve fire safety global standards, processes, systems, and technology to achieve industry leading practices.
  • Conduct governance and assurance to effectively manage fire risks across BHP globally.
  • Develop and maintain trusting and collaborative relationships with Operational and Functional stakeholders to foster strong communication, regular feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Use effective communication skills to engage with and influence all levels across the organisation.
  • Act as a true conduit for change and innovation within a complex business environment.
  • Act respectfully, professionally and with integrity in all your work and engagements across BHP.
  • Conform with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.

About You

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, skills and experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary education in Engineering; specialisation in Fire Safety highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated relevant industry and commercial experience in Fire Safety Engineering.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise on fire protection systems, both passive and active.
  • Proven experience in the design and management of fire protection system projects.
  • Strong demonstrated experience in embedding the end-to-end process required to maintain existing fire equipment.
  • Strong understanding and application of relevant International, Australian and local codes and regulations inclusive of but not limited to:
    • NFPA and other international codes and standards
    • Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment to AS 1851
    • Fixed fire protection installations - Pumpset systems to AS 2941
    • Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems to AS 2118
    • Hydrant systems to AS2419
    • Smoke and Thermal detection systems to AS1670
  • Understanding of Asset Management, maintenance execution, maintenance planning & reliability or production processes
  • Strong leadership, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills with an ability to influence to achieve optimal outcomes for the business within a matrix organisation.
  • Strong technical aptitude and critical thinking
  • Excellent strategic thinking, situation analysis, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and striving for excellence with an outward mindset.
  • Demonstrated success influencing and managing strategic change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering successful outcomes within a complex environment.
  • A ‘relationship’ leader with the ability to build open and transparent business partnerships with multiple stakeholders, at all levels of the organisation.

Location and Roster

This role is Brisbane or Perth based, and you will be working on Monday-Friday roster. The role requires site travel. Flexible work arrangement is also offered.
