About the Role

This Principal role delivers in-depth knowledge of groundwater behaviour to inform sound environmental risk management as it relates to Olympic Dam’s operations.  Key to the role will be developing and maintaining fit for purpose environmental groundwater monitoring programs and analysing, reporting  and making recommendations on the data from those programs.

Please note this position is based in Adelaide with occasional travel to site, operating on a Monday to Friday roster and is offered as a 1 year fixed-term contract.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Comply to and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
  • Manage Olympic Dam’s groundwater monitoring programs in relation to site activities and groundwater extraction from the Great Artesian Basin
  • Train, mentor and assist site team members to undertake groundwater monitoring activities
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert hydrogeology support to project and operational teams
  • Manage and analyse the groundwater database
  • Lead and review groundwater modelling and make recommendations to inform  project studies and statutory approvals
  • Monitor performance, policy and legislative changes, as well as industry performance and benchmarks
  • Coordinate or undertake research and analysis to recommend options for mitigation of environmental water risk
  • Provide processes and systems to meet licencing and statutory permitting requirements
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant external (government, industry bodies, environmental consultants, traditional owners, pastoralists, non-government organisations) and internal stakeholders to ensure problems are addressed and resolved effectively and in a timely manner

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Adhere to and demonstrate BHP Charter Values.
  • Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, or equivalent
  • Significant and relevant industry experience
  • Considerable experience in water modelling and data analysis
  • Experience in remote travel and groundwater water monitoring and sampling
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Intermediate to advanced computer literacy and competent with complex data analysis
