About the Role
We currently have an opportunity for an Environment Principal to join our Environmental Approvals and Biodiversity Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive team that embodies our Charter Values. The role is based in Perth on a standard Monday to Friday roster, however, flexible work options will be considered. Travel to our Pilbara operations will be required from time-to-time.
Reporting to the Superintendent Stewardship and Integration within the Environmental Approvals and Biodiversity Team for Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO), your primary responsibility will be to identify, coordinate and deliver environmental approvals. You will provide deep functional expertise, working with multidisciplinary teams within the business and external consultants to ensure that relevant technical studies, surveys and supporting environmental approval documentation meet BHP and government requirements.
In this role you will

Manage or support preparation of State and Federal environmental approvals, including negotiating environmental approval conditions with government on behalf of BHP;

Provide strategic, tactical and technical environmental approvals advice to project teams;

Engage with relevant external stakeholders including State and Federal Government agencies on environmental approvals;

Maintain strong relationships and effective interfaces between BHP Functional and Operational teams (Biodiversity, Planning and Technical, Projects, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Sites);

Develop, implement and initiate continuous improvement of a range of tools, templates, procedures and plans for the purposes of effectively and efficiently managing environmental impact assessments and environmental approval applications;

Support other environmental assessments, activities and initiatives as directed by the business;

Contribute and participate in business planning routines, such as scheduling, budgeting, improvement initiatives, and reviews.

Supervise and mentoring other team members as requested.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, or equivalent;

Experience in environmental approvals (or other significant external approvals);
-
Strong understanding of environmental legislation, preferably Western Australia Environmental Protection Act 1986 and/or Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999;

Experience in managing and influencing internal and external stakeholders;

Ability to work in a high-pressure delivery environment;

Experience in working collaboratively and constructively in multi-disciplinary teams;

Strong planning, organisational and time management skills;
-
