The Opportunity - Permanent, Full Time Position 

As the Principal Estimating, you are responsible for coordinating the development of all capital cost estimates across all phases and geographies as required for tollgates.
The Major Projects Portfolio is dynamic in nature and currently includes up to 50 individual projects and studies and is the first line of assurance in delivering studies and projects within approved budget and schedule across Australia, Africa and South America

 
Reporting to the Senior Manager Project Services, key role responsibilities include: 

• Support, maintain and deliver a safe and healthy workplace culture that adheres to South32 policies and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards for the workplace.
• Provision of a detailed and accurately coded estimate coded and packaged to the Project Controls Specialist
• Leading the estimation process, which will involve reviewing the capital estimates and supervising the creation of the estimation plan and the basis of estimate document.
• Establish productive working relationships with all project stakeholders, while educating and coaching stakeholders on Project Controls practices and procedures
• Fosters and drives a culture to support South32 core values of care; trust; togetherness and excellence

About You 

• Capital Estimating experience (15+ years) in major project development and execution in mining or heavy industry – Asset owners team preferred
• Experience in the delivery of capital estimates for projects >$50M
• Detailed understanding of estimating practices associated with major capital projects
• Proficient to expert user in Microsoft office suite
• Remote work experience in arduous conditions and climates.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a natural abundance of energy, warmth, and genuine enthusiasm 
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, with the capability and desire to deliver “hands on” support with your team as and when necessary 
• Advanced communication skills, including the ability to present results to technical and non-technical audiences
• Proven ability to work independently and unsupervised
• Highly self-motivated, results oriented, and delivery focused with a willingness and passion to drive improvement and innovation

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or tertiary qualification in engineering or commercial field
