Our Opportunity

 

Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster: Monday to Friday - 6 month fixed term contract 

 

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Principal Events and Communications to join our Communications team on a six-month fixed-term contract, supporting the Manager Conferences and Events in the delivery of Fortescue’s global conferences and events program. This senior role will work across major conferences, industry forums and strategic external engagements spanning Fortescue’s global operations. You will provide strategic and practical support across the program, from assessing opportunities and developing recommendations through to managing complex, high-profile engagements.

 

You will work closely with senior leaders and teams across Fortescue to coordinate executive participation, speaking opportunities, partnerships, sponsorships and communications.

 

This is a busy team managing multiple priorities at pace. We are looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative and comfortable taking ownership, getting involved and contributing wherever needed to deliver high-quality outcomes.

 

You are a senior events and communications professional who combines strategic thinking with strong delivery. A self-starter, you bring energy, enthusiasm and a strong sense of ownership, identifying what needs to be done, taking action and following through.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Support the Manager Conferences and Events in managing Fortescue’s global conferences and events program
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations on priority conferences, speaking opportunities, partnerships, sponsorships and external engagements
  • Manage a portfolio of complex and high-profile global conferences and events from planning through to delivery and evaluation
  • Work with senior leaders and their offices to coordinate executive participation and major external engagements
  • Develop event strategies, briefs, key messages and supporting communications aligned with Fortescue’s business priorities
  • Work across Communications, Media, Government Relations, Investor Relations, Brand and the broader business to deliver a coordinated approach
  • Build strong relationships with conference organisers, industry bodies, partners and other external stakeholders
  • Manage sponsorships, agencies, suppliers, budgets and delivery risks across assigned events and workstreams
  • Support forward planning, prioritisation and reporting across the global events calendar
  • Provide guidance and support to team members and contribute to a cohesive, high-performing team environment
  • Step in across team priorities as required to support delivery during busy periods

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Extensive experience across corporate events, communications, corporate affairs or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, high-profile or international conferences and events
  • Significant experience working with executives and senior leaders
  • Strong strategic judgement and the ability to provide clear, considered recommendations
  • Excellent written communication, planning and organisational skills
  • Experience managing sponsorships, agencies, suppliers and budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align stakeholders across a complex organisation
  • A proactive, practical and collaborative approach, with a strong focus on quality delivery
  • Experience in mining, resources, energy, technology or another complex global industry will be highly regarded.
