ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a full-time, fixed term 12-month contract offered on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

As the Principal External Affairs, you will execute GEMCO’s stakeholder engagement plans to ensure transparent and open engagement with key stakeholders, Traditional Owners and local communities where we operate.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Executing GEMCO’s Social Investment Program including reporting and compliance to South32 standards and policies
• Leveraging social investment spend to support improved awareness of GEMCO’s contribution to the communities where we operate through development and execution of leverage plans for the Grants Program and signature partnerships
• Leading community and sustainability reporting requirements to Corporate and GEMCO leadership team
• Supporting local community event execution and internal/external communication activities to support effective engagement with employees and local communities

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Significant experience in External Affairs/Communications/Stakeholder Engagement or related discipline
• Experience with events management is preferable
• Experience working in regional or remote Indigenous communities is highly desirable
• Accomplished and persuasive written and verbal communication skills including the ability to simplify complex, technical information into straightforward messaging suitable for a range of audiences

Qualifications for this position are:

• Tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations or another External Affairs related discipline, or extensive work experience in a directly related environment
