Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC) produces premium-quality, hard coking coal for steelmaking, which is transported within Australia and around the world. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent full-time position based at the Regional Operations Centre, Port Kembla Coal Terminal in the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW, approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney.
As the Principal External Affairs, you will develop engagement and communications strategies to protect and enhance IMCs’ reputation and ensure IMCs’ role and value is understood by key external stakeholders.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Anticipate, manage, and resolve reputational issues, including complex regulatory and legacy issues, to the benefit of the business operations.
- Advise and influence business decisions regarding amenity impacts affecting local communities, the natural environment, and cultural heritage sites.
- Support the development and execution of engaging internal and external communication strategies.
- Lead meetings with community consultative committees, advisory panels, and local Aboriginal Land Councils.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Significant experience working in a similar role ideally within the mining, construction or heavy industry.
- Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and communications.
- Awareness of corporate affairs and/or public participation frameworks.
- Ability to respond to crisis and emergency situations.
- Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

Qualifications for this position are:
- Tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Corporate Affairs, or similar, or extensive experience in a related field
- “C” class drivers’ licence
