About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Control Systems in the Technology Operations team, this role provides subject matter expertise in Functional and Process Safety across our Iron Ore assets at both Port and Mines.

Duties will include:

  • Operations authority for validation, verification, and management of change for functional safety systems
  • Validating functional safety assessment across all lifecycle stages (gap analysis, remediation plans etc.)
  • Enforcement and development and of safety management plans
  • Audit operations and maintenance activities to functional safety standards
  • Provide mentorship and training to members of the team
  • Develop training plans & coach end users on the requirements within the standards and how to meet these requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration, feedback and drive continuous improvement to achieve the right outcomes for the sites.
  • Report on performance and in partnership with site lead on the development of action plans.
  • Participate in incident investigations and management of change, recommend actions - to drive improvements and prevent recurrences
  • Review and manage standards, procedures and work methods.
  • Ability to tailor complex technical requirements to non-technical stakeholder groups

About You

As the preferred candidate, you will have a current functional safety accreditattion (TUV FS Eng, Exida CFSP or equivalent) and have held it for a minimum of 5 years. In addition a tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or similar discipline, with a minimum of 10 years relevant post-qualification experience.

You should have relevant experience and be able to demonstrate:

  • an understanding of electrical circuit design considerations related to functional safety standards.
  • have completed either full or partial development of safety requirements specifications in the past
  • A full understanding of all the operational and maintainence requirements under the functional safety standards
  • Functional safety system testing and commissioning experience is highly regarded

Ideally, you will have worked in large scale bulk handling operations, encompassing automated train loading, stacking, reclaiming, car dumping and ship loading operations in the past. 

As the successful candidate, you will be highly organised and possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (including root-cause analysis) with the ability to prioritise effectively in a high-pressure environment.
