Role Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, The purpose of this position is to provide technical solutions that enhance business outcomes for our clients and stakeholders. This is a collaborative and supportive role, requiring the use of best practice in geotechnical engineering to deliver value for both new and existing customers. As a highly experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer with extensive experience in both open pit and underground mining, this role offers the opportunity to lead technical geotechnical work across a diverse portfolio of operations, contributing to governance, operational support, and studies.

Key Responsibilities: 

Act in the best interests of Orelogy, by working within legislation that underpins the company’s operation, as well as ensuring that decisions are based on the achievement of Orelogy objectives.Ensure conduct which is consistent with Perenti values, policies, systems, procedures and statutory requirements.Ensuring a safe working environment, being a visible leader for safety, and providing a daily commitment to zero harm to employees, contractors, environment and the community.Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to, Orelogy clients and client representatives, employees, management and supplier contacts.Coach and mentor team members and support the development of career pathways for our people.Participate in growth initiatives to support wider business objectives.Identify, recommend, and execute business improvement opportunities in line with industry best practice.Ensure all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users’ requirements.Conduct geotechnical audits and technical reviews.Develop and deliver ground awareness training packages.Participate in incident investigations and SPI workshops.Provide site-based geotechnical assessments for both open pit and underground operations.Review ground control management plans, support standards, and TARP protocols.Assist in stope and slope design, crown/sill pillar stability, and overbreak analysis.Collaborate with site teams to embed best practices in ground control.Mentor junior Engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.Contribute to tender technical risk assessments.Support schedule optimisation and ground control design for new projects.

Key Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or the equivalent).10 years in-depth geotechnical experience across different mining methods.Experience in both open pit and underground environments is highly desirable.Strong site-based exposure with demonstrated ability to work across multiple operations.Minimum of 5 years supervising teams.Excellent communication and stakeholder skills.Technical report writing skills.Effective verbal and written communication skills.High level of computer literacy, with advanced capabilities in geotechnical software such as such as Rocscience suite, FLAC, Map3D.
