About the Role

Working within the broader Planning and Technical Team, the Principal Geotechnical Mining role provides geotechnical excellence for the Olympic Dam mine extension and potential Oak Dam resource.  Working in a small, dynamic technical team in a flexible work environment, your technical skills and collaborative approach will enable you to work across disciplines.

Your focus on safety, material risk management, technical standards and industry best practice will support the creation, delivery and safe execution of mine plans.

With a passion for geotechnical practice, you will:

  • Collaborate with the mine geology team members in acquisition of rock mass characterisation data and establishment of geotechnical databases;
  • Define geotechnical and hydrogeological domain models and rock mass failure criterion for the unique mining blocks;
  • Provide geotechnical recommendations to the mine planning team members in the design of key mine infrastructure and mine layouts for the geotechnically unique mining areas;
  • Develop geotechnical monitoring strategies;
  • Establish and embed emerging technologies; and
  • Turn orebody information into mining knowledge through following the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle with the site geotechnical team members.  
  • Field time at Oak Dam and Olympic Dam as required

About You

  • Previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries.
  • Experience in geotechnical design and monitoring
  • Advanced skills in rock mass characterisation, instrumentation and monitoring, and numerical modelling methods
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Ability to think laterally and visualise in 3D.
  • Proven ability to influence and mentor others in HSEC principles and behaviours.
  • Ability to operate across disciplines where required.
  • Professional association affiliation (i.e. RPEQ – CPGeot)
