About the Role
The Principal Global Geomatics will lead best practice related to the acquisition, management, analysis and delivery of geospatial data and information across our exploration, mining and legacy asset interests to underpin decision making across BHP’s numerous value chains.
Reporting to the Practice Lead Global Resource Knowledge, the role will support the Resource Centre of Excellence and BHP’s Assets with assurance practices where your key accountabilities will include:
- Sharing of global measurement best practices and measurement technology maintenance strategies to conform with geodetic standards and procedures.
- Application, maintenance and development geomatic standards that reduce risks and challenges across BHP’s value chain. This includes partnership with internal peers to support adherence to existing standards or where applicable develop and embed new geomatic standards.
- Oversees asset based spatial controls supporting inventory reporting & reconciliation processes. Provides support to ensure conformance to inventory reporting controls to mitigate material misstatement of inventory.
- Identification of key knowledge gaps in the ability to create, deliver and maintain geomatics research roadmaps which influence allocation of resources to research and development initiatives.
- Building of trusted relationships with and between BHP Operations and Planning and Technical groups.
- Provides geomatic thought leadership. Influences, leads, and manages geomatic research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with asset or functional peers within BHP.
- Partners with industry bodies to continually improve geomatics standards and guidelines across the wider industry and at BHP.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Demonstrated relevant experience as Geomatics practitioner.
- Tertiary qualification in Geomatic (Surveying, GIS, etc.)
- Strong experience and knowledge of GIS Survey throughout the resource value chain, from exploration, to mining and throughout to closure.
- Experience of successfully mentoring and coaching geosciences.
- Experience in leading a team and achieving innovative breakthroughs in understanding the field of geomatics to inform business decisions.
- Demonstrated deep technical expertise in geomatics and its incorporation into exploration, mining, and closure.
- Evidence of technical thought leadership in influencing research directions.
Location and Roster
In this permanent full-time opportunity, there is flexibility for you to be based at any of BHP Australia’s corporate offices in Perth or Brisbane. You will be working on Monday-Friday roster.
