About the Role

We are currently recruiting Principal Global Metallurgy & Processing, this is an exciting role with global focus to lead best practice in the processing of ores to extract minerals to saleable products. As part of BHP’s Resource Centre of Excellence, this role will enable you to connect with professionals covering all aspects of the minerals extraction value chain and work across BHP’s global commodity portfolio. You will champion the assurance of risk-based processing plans, highlight best practice operational practices to BHP’s processing assets and support future investment decisions in existing asset studies, projects and Business Development opportunities. Your accountabilities include:  

  • Thought leadership in metallurgical and processing operating practices.
  • Development of the awareness and capability of BHP Metallurgists and Process Engineers in the design and delivery of metallurgical processing plants.
  • Building of trusted relationships with and between key stakeholders of the Processing discipline.  This includes BHP Operations and Planning and Technical groups, Innovation, Directional Studies, Major Projects and Business Development.
  • Identification of key knowledge gaps in the ability to deliver processing plans.  Developing minimum standards and driving assurance processes to enable reliable and predictable processing performance outcomes.
  • Influence, lead and manage Metallurgical and processing research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with asset or functional peers within BHP.
  • Promoting BHP as leaders in Metallurgy and Processing to the external technical community, including universities, research institutions and professional organisations.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience in Metallurgy or Process Engineering in operational and technical metallurgical roles.
  • Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with Copper or Nickel metallurgy & processing are desirable.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching Metallurgy professionals.
  • Experience in leading a team’s achieving innovative breakthroughs in understanding or application of risk-based Process Engineering to inform business decisions.
  • Demonstrated deep technical expertise in Metallurgy across concentrating, Smelting or Leaching.
  • Evidence of technical thought leadership in influencing research directions.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new concepts through breadth of applied science-based work experience.

Location and Roster

This role can be base at our BHP Australia corporate offices in Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide. You will be working Monday-Friday and flexible work is also offered.
