Our Opportunity

 

Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

 

Roster: Monday-Friday 

 

You will provide strategic leadership to Fortescue's Health & Safety compliance and governance framework, ensuring the business meets its legislative and regulatory obligations while driving continuous improvement.

 

Working closely with operational leaders, corporate stakeholders and regulators, you will strengthen compliance capability, lead assurance activities, optimise systems and reporting, and influence a proactive, risk-based approach to governance.

 

This is an opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong background in compliance, regulatory engagement and stakeholder leadership to make a significant impact across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the governance and continuous improvement of Fortescue's Health & Safety compliance framework, ensuring legislative obligations are effectively managed across the business.
  • Drive strategic compliance, assurance and risk initiatives that strengthen governance, regulatory readiness and organisational performance.
  • Provide expert oversight of regulatory reporting, investigations, legislative change and engagement with external regulators.
  • Optimise compliance systems, reporting and assurance processes to improve visibility, governance controls and compliance outcomes.
  • Develop insightful compliance reporting and dashboards, using data to identify trends, mitigate risks and drive continuous improvement, including AI and automation opportunities.
  • Mentor and coach Health & Safety professionals while building compliance capability and promoting a strong governance culture.
  • Partner with operational and corporate stakeholders to deliver practical, risk-based compliance solutions that support safe and effective operations.
  • Act as a trusted subject matter expert, influencing leaders across the business to proactively manage compliance, governance and regulatory obligations.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety (or equivalent), with ICAM investigation certification; Lead Auditor qualification highly regarded.
  • 8–10 years' experience in Health & Safety within FIFO mining or heavy industry, including advisory or governance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, mining regulations and compliance frameworks, with experience managing regulatory obligations.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with regulators, leading investigations and managing compliance or assurance activities.
  • Proven ability to drive governance, risk and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen organisational performance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and project management capability, with experience leading change and delivering strategic outcomes.
  • Exceptional written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prepare executive-level documentation and manage competing priorities
