About the Role

This role provides an exciting opportunity to provide HSE leadership and support to the Metals Exploration (MEX) Australasia team. Reporting to the Australasia HSE Superintendent for Metals Exploration, you will provide technical HSE advice and support for operational exploration activities across the Australasia Region.

You will provide leadership and provide technical expertise in the management of health, hygiene, environment, security, safety, emergency response and HSE assurance related issues, processes, provisions, and initiatives for the BHP Metals Exploration Australasia team.

Based in either Perth, Western Australia or Adelaide, South Australia, regular travel will be required to enable effective relationships with the team and customers. You will enable the execution of BHP and MEX HSE related requirements and initiatives across Australasia field activities.

In this role you will:

  • Manage, improve, and provide expertise on safety risk management practices to improve organisational safety outcomes and performance.
  • Define and drive effectiveness and standardization of processes in partnership with your peers across Metals Exploration.
  • Support the Australasia team in delivery of performance targets relevant to health, safety, emergency response, security, environment, and hygiene. 
  • Manage the coordination of HSE reporting, systems and processes at the Australasia level and in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Support Australasia growth through engagement with pipeline development, identifying key HSE needs to support growth.
  • Support the delivery of MEX and Global HSE Strategy and key MEX HSE priorities.
  • Build HSE capability and capacity within the Australasia team through coaching, mentoring and the provision of advice on HSE strategy, system and procedures.
  • Provide specialist/functional expertise to leadership on HSE related programs/initiatives/controls to enable compliance with HSE and statutory requirements.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience with HSE professional in exploration, mining, or similar resources industry.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated capability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and community groups.
  • Tertiary degree in a health, safety, environment or related field.
  • Good knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of HSE related risks.
  • Experience in working in the Australasia region would be well regarded.
