About GEMCO
Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is a South32 Company, the operation is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

About the role
This is a permanent full-time role being offered on a 4:3 roster (Monday-Thursday), FIFO Darwin or Cairns or can be offered as residential.
In the role of Principal Improvement, you will play a pivotal role in driving the improvement process and implementation of the Operating System at GEMCO. You will lead initiatives with the aim to achieve tangible business benefits in line with GEMCO’s strategic plan, while actively seeking out high value opportunities.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- Lead the implementation and embedment of the South32 Operating Model and Operating System
- Perform regular improvement diagnostics and data analysis to address the operation’s constraints, identify value levers and generate ideas to improve operational performance
- Work with the Operations Leadership team to develop of the annual GEMCO Business Plan and targets aligned to South32 strategic plans
- Lead the implementation of the improvement project pipeline
- Provide governance and direction on the operation’s business intelligence and analytics strategy
- Coach, train and mentor operational personnel in business improvement methodologies and techniques
- Utilise improvement systems and tools to enable effective execution and reporting of improvement initiatives across the organisation
About you
Ideally you love challenges and enjoy identifying ways to support the team meet their objectives. With proven project management skills, you will possess:
- Tertiary, trade, or postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline (Engineering, Finance, Mining, Processing or similar)
- Demonstrated proficiency in delivering improvements in large organisations
- Very strong communication and consultative skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
- Strong influencing skills, capable of driving significant change
- Relevant and demonstrated work experience in a similar role.
