About the Role

Reporting to the Manger Operations Services (OS) Improvement, we are seeking an experienced improvement professional for the role of Principal Improvement. In this role, you will be focused on identifying, scoping, and delivering business improvement opportunities across OS.

This team works with senior leaders to deliver the highest impact operational and functional opportunities through data driven benchmarking, opportunity identification, a single aligned improvement plan, and enterprise delivery support.  

Your key deliverables include:

  • Drive high value improvement through working in partnership with various leaders across Operations Services and Assets. You will work to identify, align on a plan, implement, deliver and evaluate high impact improvement projects to advance the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of OS;
  • Work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure understanding, engagement and relevance for initiatives;
  • Provide analytical expertise to support the team in identification of improvement initiatives/projects, whilst evaluating the success of implemented solutions;
  • Partner with other parts of the business to identify and resolve process inefficiencies across the value chain;
  • Provide actionable improvement insights to senior leaders;
  • Support the replication of best practices across OS improvement programs;
  • Support the delivery of sustaining activities required to achieve project benefits post-implementation.

About You

We are looking for individuals that are self-motivated and possess business knowledge to drive enterprise improvement outcomes. You will have a minimum of 3+ years’ relevant professional experience in leading and delivering high impact improvement projects and experience in forming and leading multidisciplinary teams with the goal of achieving measurable and sustained value for our business. 

As a strategic and analytical thinker, you will demonstrate strong business acumen and are able to get to the root cause of problems in efficient ways. You will have the ability to synthesise and analyse findings to be able to present clear and compelling solutions with your excellent communication skills. You will have experience leading and delivering large scale, high value improvement projects in a mining or asset-intensive context. You will bring experience in working effectively within multidisciplinary teams with the goal of achieving measurable and sustained value for the business. You will be able to effectively support the identification, scoping, planning and delivery of improvement projects with the Assets and stakeholders across OS. 

To be successful you will demonstrate the following:

  • Able to establish credibility through your engagement, technical ability and outcome driven results;
  • Bring a sound understanding of key business and mining industry performance drivers and will have demonstrated experience working within an innovative, best practice continuous improvement function;
  • Proficient use of project management methodology i.e. PMBOK or Lean Six Sigma;
  • You will bring energy and a strong team player attitude with significant collaboration across teams and capabilities. You will work across a variety of projects in a complex matrix work environment, so you must enjoy stepping outside your comfort zone and navigating stakeholders in a global and dynamic organisation through your influencing, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business management, engineering or related discipline;
  • Exposure to the BHP Operating System (BOS) would be advantageous.
