About the Role

The Principal Drill and Blast Production Integration is responsible for asset wide coordination of drill and blast activities and resources across all of BMA’s site operations. This role is part of the Integrated Planning team, and acts as the key subject matter expert (SME) on drill and blast for BMA. The role also has accountability for explosives management across BMA inclusive of contract ownership for our major vendors – such as Orica, QNP and Platinum. The successful candidate will be safety focused with strong leadership, influencing and communication skills, commercial acumen and deep experience in both the technical and operational aspects of drill and blast.

In this role you will:

  • Have an overriding commitment to health, safety and environmental responsibility
  • Ensure conformance to the relevant statutory and material risk management practices relating to explosive use, transport, storage and sales
  • Provide technical expertise, training and coaching to site teams in relation to drill and blast design, planning and practices
  • Problem solve operational and technical issues relating to drill and blast practices, logistics, storage and supply
  • Manage the key explosive vendor contracts, ensuring compliance against the BHP contract management framework
  • Co-ordinate and develop annual drill and blast business plans & procurement strategies for the asset
  • Ensure continuity of supply of explosives for BMA by leading the Drill and Blast Short Range Forecast (SRF) Process and working with both the supply team and vendors to secure adequate product and transport.
  • Manage the costs (forecasting, receipt and reconciliation) associated with BMA’s explosive use.
  • Provide input into the Continuous Improvement process for Drill and Blast, including engagement and involvement in regular asset wide forums.
  • Direct engagement with site and suppliers to perform monthly allocation of explosives across all BMA sites
  • Manage any Take or Pay liabilities the business has under current commercial arrangements with explosives contracts
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to drive innovation, continuous improvement, value and savings.

About You

You will be tertiary qualified in Mining Engineering and highly experienced in the drill and blast field, with 5+ years’ experience in a combination of Operational Drill and Blast and Drill and Blast Planning and Design. RPEQ certification would be highly desirable.

You will be a highly organised individual, with superior communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to lead and influence others. You will be at adept at building relationships, and capable of engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all organisational levels, displaying strong interpersonal skills and a customer focus. Capable of working effectively in both individual and team environments, you are highly motivated with an outcomes and delivery focus and robust commercial acumen.
