Role overview:
As a result of international and domestic growth related to Fortescue’s evolution toward becoming an integrated resources and green energy company, Group Risk, Assurance and Insurance (GRAI) is seeking a new Internal Audit Principal. Working in a dynamic and focused team, a suitably qualified candidate is sought to support and manage the delivery of high-quality risk management, internal audit and advisory services. Operating in a matrix structure and reporting to a Manager Risk & Assurance, the role will work closely with all levels of management across the business globally to engender trust and confidence in the advice GRAI provides its stakeholders to support the achievement of Fortescue’s strategic objectives. The successful candidate will have the confidence to challenge the status quo, the poise to engage with senior leaders and the relationship-building skills to partner with diverse teams to deliver innovative solutions.
Key duties and responsibilities of this role will include:
Working in collaboration with the other members of the GRAI team, the role will be varied and flexible and include the following responsibilities:
- Interpret Fortescue’s strategic plan, business initiatives and changing risk profiles to support the development of Internal Audit and Risk Management Plans;
- Lead or support, as required, the design and delivery of internal audits so as to manage professional risk and deliver highly complex audits of material risks, governance and internal control environments. In doing so, support innovation and provide assurance on the sustainability of these processes to senior stakeholders;
- Contribute to effective project management to achieve operational excellence. Assure the quality of audit projects in accordance with professional standards, on-board and supervise appropriate subject-matter skills and deliver scopes of work with positive business impact, on schedule and within approved budgets;
- Undertake hands-on audit procedures as a core accountability;
- Act as a catalyst for organisational improvement through internal audit recommendations that are prudent, sustainable and provide business benefits. Secure management buy-in for the changes through effective collaboration and follow-up to ensure that agreed internal audit actions have been implemented;
- Bring an inquisitive mind and highly refined analytical skills to assess disparate sources of information, from both within the organisation and externally, to identify new insights. Channel this into the preparation of a range of insightful, professionally polished executive presentations and management reports; and
- Contribute to the effective management of the GRAI function, including its financial affairs, the maintenance of its systems and methodologies and its supplier management plans.
Qualifications and skills required:
- In order to be considered for this opportunity, you will bring 10+ years’ experience in internal audit (including a combination of a Big 4 professional services environment and work with large, complex multinational businesses) to complement your university degree in commerce, computer science or engineering and your professional auditing qualifications (CA or CPA and CIA).
- Knowledge and practical application of professional auditing standards is essential.
- This role will suit a candidate who is well organised, has strong interpersonal and communication skills, can work independently, is innovative and resourceful in solving problems and has a strong focus on quality and customer service. Knowledge and experience in mining, energy or industrial operations with exposure to large capital projects is required. Exposure to manufacturing and associated risks will also be favourably viewed.
- Your maturity, decisiveness and strong emotional intelligence will see you succeed in this position, as will your previous experience in the provision of advice to Executive teams.
- The role will require domestic and international travel.
