ABOUT THE ROLE

The Opportunity - Permanent, Full-Time Position: this role will be based at our office in Wollongong NSW. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).

The role of Principal Long Term Mine Planning will be responsible for developing robust optimised long-term mine plans for South32’s Illawarra Metallurgical Coal operations.

Reporting to the Mine Planning Manager, the key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Development of optimised and sustainable long-term mine plans and production schedules (>2 years)
  • Providing specialist mine planning advice and execute operation-specific tasks related to the development and delivery of long term mine plans
  • Interacting with various stakeholders to ensure the quality, alignment and understanding of long term mine plans
  • Develop JORC compliant Reserve statements for the Illawarra Metallurgical Coal underground mines including associated internal and external documentation

ABOUT YOU 

  • High level of competency in applied mine design and scheduling packages (RPMGlobal Underground Coal Solution preferable)
  • Strong technical experience in underground mining, preferably long wall coal, including the ability to identify and analyse options whilst appropriately applying mining constraints
  • Demonstrated experience across a wide range of mine planning functions (mine design, production scheduling, gas drainage, capital infrastructure design, cost analysis and forecasting)
  • Ability to quickly analyse problems and apply strategic thinking to optimise the resource and maximise value
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and influence key stakeholder groups including functions, operations, and senior leadership
  • Registered as a professional with an affiliated association as required by JORC

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (civil/mining) with a minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience
