About GEMCO 

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is a South32 Company, the operation is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963. 

This is a full-time permanent role on a 4/3 Roster (Monday – Thursday), FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Develop and maintain the governance systems and processes to control mechanical engineering standards across the operation. The role is responsible for mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and procedures
  • Provide mechanical design expertise for mechanical equipment, systems, and processes - existing plant, infrastructure, and new projects
  • Provide expert working knowledge of mechanical design and calculations and design packages and can undertake and check calculation work from first principals
  • Provide expert understanding and working knowledge of Australian Standards that may impact or govern the GEMCO Operation
  • Maintain the classified plant register for the plant, equipment, and infrastructure across GEMCO operations

About you

You’ll be a great fit if you have:

  • Experience in a Principal Mechanical Engineer role in an operating asset
  • Ability to apply safety, health and environmental principals and procedures in a workplace and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current Work Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Extensive knowledge of AS/NZS Standards
  • Expertise to produce complex and detailed engineering drawings using mechanical design and drafting packages
  • Apply problem solving strategies
  • Demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals of project management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering
  • Eligible for RPEQ or CPEng
  • Class C Driver’s License
