Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: USA - Houston, Texas or Dulles Corridor, North Virginia 

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Hands on role, providing mechanical / process technology solutions, expert advice, and technical support on mechanical design
  • Provide critical technical advice and support to the business in the early stage project development lifecycle, including optimised concept design, flow diagrams, design criteria, etc
  • Perform / oversee mechanical design, simulation, heat & mass balance, process flow diagrams and any required mechanical studies to be undertaken
  • Oversee equipment sizing for mechanical requirements, specifications, and data sheets
  • Communicating and interfacing effectively with other disciplines, study managers, and equipment and engineering specialist providers
  • Assisting in building and interpreting detailed technical and economic models with the data analytics team
  • Participation in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis
  • Arrange and perform technical due diligence on project deliverables and third-party deliverables
  • Develop relationships with and management of external consultants and suppliers

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the industrial gases / hydrocarbon industry
  • Subject matter expert in mechanical engineering
  • Ideally, professional registration with an internationally recognized Institution
  • Significant experience working in a multi-project environment including high level conceptual studies and feasibility studies through to commissioning
  • Industry experience in hydrogen and ammonia manufacturing, with experience in green energy vectors highly advantageous
  • Previous experience in overseeing EPC design activities from Owner/Client perspective is preferred.
  • Experience operating in an environment where there are tight timeframes
  • Effective communication, including writing and reporting across a range of stakeholders
  • Experience formulating and executing strategies and concepts
  • Exposure to detailed design, construction and exposure to process plant pre-commissioning, commissioning, and troubleshooting would be advantageous
  • A strong drive to deliver results and meet business expectations
