Principal – Mine Closure Planning

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from passionate closure planning practitioners to join our Closure Team as a Principal – Mine Closure Planning. This is a permanent position, offering flexible workplace arrangements on a Monday to Friday Perth-based roster.

Reporting to the Manager Mine Closure, this role will work collaboratively with internal and external subject matter experts to deliver innovative, cost-effective closure solutions for mine and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead closure cost estimation and related financial reporting and audit activities
  • Lead mine closure plan development
  • Coordinate delivery of studies and field trials to close knowledge gaps relating to soil, landform design, water management, vegetation, and implementation costs
  • Supervise and train developing closure planners
  • Drive closure planning education and governance programs within the business

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Demonstrable experience in managing mining environments (engineering or environmental fields)
  • Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication and strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record delivering mine closure plans in accordance with regulatory or international guidelines
  • Role requires experienced project manager with an ability to innovate and adapt well to agile environments
  • Experience with cost estimation or financial reporting would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation, decommissioning / demolition or Pilbara environment would be advantageous
  • Alternate roles for candidates with lower-level role experience will be considered
