Principal Mine Planning - Decarbonisation Studies

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Principal Mining Engineer to join our Decarbonisation Studies team. Reporting to the Manager Mine Planning – Decarbonisation Studies, this role is responsible for carrying out activities to support mine planning activities related to the decarbonisation of existing operations and to provide guidance to the Studies team for planning of new projects.  

To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with good understanding of both operational and planning functions within the mining industry. The candidate will possess a strong operational background to be able to identify and assess innovative solutions and to be able to articulate these solutions to the relevant stakeholders.

 Key accountabilities will include:

  • Planning, execution, and delivery of planned mine planning activities to meet decarbonisation targets; identifying and delivering key technical work packages to meet these targets
  • Manage a team to find and assess practical and innovative solutions in conjunction with the broader project team for the mining and infrastructure areas
  • Liaise with technical support functions to understand risk and opportunities to the proposed solutions and to enable timely achievement of project milestones

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mining or similar)
  • Very strong interpersonal skills with both internal and external groups
  • Strong knowledge in open pit mining and mine planning activities
  • Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative
