About the Role 

This is a fantastic opportunity to have real impact, working with a team of industry experts and reporting into the Manager of Technical Services. The purpose of the role is to provide technical and engineering solutions along with business improvement outcomes for our operations globally. This is a collaborative and supportive role requiring the use of technical mining best practice to deliver value for our new and existing customers.

Responsibilities will include

  • Acting in the best interests of Barminco, by working within legislation that underpins the Company’s operation, as well as ensuring that decisions are based on the achievement of Barminco’s objectives. 
  • Ensuring conduct which is consistent with Barminco’s values, policies, systems, procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to, Barminco’s clients and client representatives, employees, management and supplier contacts.
  • Assisting with the development of systems, processes and practices for the newly created Technical Services division
  • Advising on underground mine design, including drill and blast, sequence and scheduling and operational optimisations
  • Supporting technical reviews, cost forecasting, resource allocation, life of mine/monthly/weekly progress tracking and reporting
  • Supporting and advising the tendering team, review of tender schedules and designs
  • Maintaining an active register for mine planning risks and opportunities across  the business
  • Participating and contribute to safe practice and environmental awareness
  • Ensuring all works under area of control are completed to a standard that is fit for purpose and meets the end users’ requirements
  • Supervising, mentoring and training engineering graduates to become a valuable asset within the business
  • Identifying productivity and cost reduction opportunities
  • Participating in the development of the department annual budget activities and tracking progress         

Key Requirements 

  • Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering
  • Underground Supervisors Certificate of Competency or First Class Mine Managers (FCMM) Certificate of Competency will be highly regarded
  • 10 years in-depth Technical and Operational experience across different mining methods
  • Minimum of 5 years supervising teams
  • Technical report writing skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Deswik software experience essential
