About the Role
We are enthusiastically seeking a Talented Professional to join our team in the role of Principal Mining Engineer. Reporting to the Manager Technical and Studies, this is an exciting leadership role, accountable to provide strategic direction and excellence in mine engineering services to support our Nickel West Operations.
Working in a collaborative environment, you will be responsible for generating strategic mine plans and contributing to feasibility studies to optimise Nickel extraction across the exploration pipeline. This includes working within the project management framework to ensure studies gate from IPS through to DPS with varying degrees of detail required to produce execution grade plans. You will shape and drive improvement through a team of technical experts, and be instrumental in influencing our future business outlook. You will work with our stakeholders at site and across supporting functions to develop optimised mine plans across tactical and strategic time horizons.

The business employs over 2500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. Location
Nickel West – Perth operates from City Square located in the heart of the Perth CBD. The building itself reflects the latest thinking in corporate workplace design and facilities with the centerpiece of the development being a 45 storey tower which is home to the other BHP group of companies in Western Australia.
About You
You will have a collaborative approach, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholder groups and positively influence outcomes.Your excellent communication skills include a deep understanding of stakeholder needs and preferences and an ability to support leadership teams by providing context and insight to facilitate decision-making and strategic direction. Experience preferred includes engineering/technical roles within the Resources industry with strong leadership and/or technical capabilities built through experience in either underground and/or open pit operations. Additional desirable skills include:
- Lead and assist with productivity by design initiatives intended to leverage substantial business savings across the mines from optimised pit and haulage designs.
- Identifying and implementing cultural and process improvement initiatives within the team/operation
- Ensuring that risk in the mine plan is proactively identified, mitigated and where required adequately controlled
- Ensuring sound engagement of key stakeholders both with regards to gathering plan inputs and the communication of plan outputs
