About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Technical and Studies, the Principal Mining Studies provides technical expertise and guidance to Mining projects across Nickel West. Working with diverse stakeholder groups you will be integral in influencing and driving studies to successful outcomes from identification all the way through to execution.
This role is based in Perth with travel to site as required and offering flexibility for that unique work/life balance.
In this role you will:
- Define project objectives/schedules, identify critical activities, monitor the project plan/schedule and drive continuous improvement initiatives across projects at BHP and Nickel West
- Identify opportunities to optimise value, manage associated risks and apply Optimised With/Optimised Without framework principles to create and preserve maximum value from projects
- Monitor and manage project performance to deliver projects in line with safety standards, requirements, budget and scope
- Define interdepartmental project scope and manage these deliverables by interfacing with multiple stakeholders through project phase transitions
- Identify and continuously reassess the best fit solutions, take ownership of project decisions and outcomes and assess impacts to value across the project lifecycle
- Identify and assess risks, use BHP's risk management framework to build a risk conscious culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes
- Define value drivers and determine the opportunity boundaries to trigger further investment
About You
- Degree qualified in Mining, Geotechnical, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Solid experience in Open Cut and/or Underground mining operations in a technical capacity
- In-depth understanding and working knowledge of mining regulations / Australian standards
- Significant experience with project lifecycles, especially front-end studies
- Understanding of approval processes (environmental / heritage)
- The ability to prioritise and effectively manage multiple deliverables across stakeholders
- Strong influencing skills and engagement of teams that support high quality engaged delivery
