About the Role

A Principal Operational Performance (IROC+), is responsible for deeply understanding asset level operational performance across the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) metallurgical coal value chain contextualising across safety, culture and commercial value-based outcomes.

Through this understanding, the principal leads and supports routines and ad-hoc analysis that clearly articulate and synthesise the key asset level risks and opportunities to annual plan delivery ensuring gap closing activities are in place and effective, opportunities are tabled for consideration and the performance narrative for the business is clearly communicated across all stakeholders.

Reporting to Manager Operational Projects, your key accountabilities include:

  • Demonstrating an in depth understanding of the coal value chain able to deeply analyse major processes such as truck/shovel, dragline, CHPP and across the asset including technical, commercial & cultural elements able to draw synthesized analytical insights supporting asset level priorities.
  • Leads, coaches and mentors direct and indirect team members to deeply understand current performance aligned to business objectives, identifying gaps and gap closing activities, supporting initiative development and execution aligned to BOS practices sustainably improving underlying productivity aligned with business strategy.
  • Leads and continuously improves IROC+ performance management routines ensuring analytical insights are both actionable and actioned by wider team members and broader stakeholders with clarity on baseline performance v target and governance over sustainable implementation of gap closing activities.
  • Engages and collaborates with broad ranging stakeholders at all levels of the business within and external to the IROC+ teams ensuring prioritization of improvement work is both data driven, and outcome focused aligned to BOS practices.
  • Prepares commentary and business reporting as required by stakeholder group synthesizing and accurately reflecting current performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Leads and supports ongoing technology development that enhances operational performance across the asset.

About You

With a range of complementary skills across the team, the successful candidate you will possess some or all of the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant professional experience in a maintenance, operational or manufacturing context.
  • A systems thinker with demonstrated technical ability to design sustainable analytical models and tools combined with strong project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with multiple layers of the organisational structure.
  • Finance, Asset/Maintenance Management or Mining university qualification or equivalent business experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of mine production activities and Open Cut mining processes desirable.  
  • Strong Data driven/fact based analysis with strong numeracy & literacy skills with ability to translate data into insights
  • Ability to Influences and enables change across diverse stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of BHP Operating Systems (BOS) or LEAN methodologies to drive Impacts performance through continuous improvement across complex systems.
  • Familiar working with data driven tools, e.g: Power BI, budgeting / modelling tools.

Location

In this full-time permanent position, you will be based at our Brisbane corporate office on a Monday-Friday roster with travel to site as required with Flexi work also on offer.
