About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Power & Gas, you will drive the commercial accountabilities in relation to renewable energy (initially focussed on decarbonising power and fleet for Iron Ore in Western Australia and Coal in Queensland). 

As part of the Inbound Energy, Carbon and Potash team, this role will have the opportunity to directly influence BHP’s energy transition and decarbonisation efforts in both in Australia and our global operations.

This is a role which can be based in Perth or Brisbane.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Focusing on safety and performance aligned to BHP’s governance and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting a cross functional team to deliver commercial renewable energy arrangements, and well as any associated network and/or other arrangements
  • Contributing to other projects focussed on BHP’s other decarbonisation efforts, in particular with respect to fuels and carbon offset opportunities
  • Subject matter expert for commercial contracts and structuring arrangements
  • Performing future scenario planning and communicate outcomes to enable more informed decision making
  • Ensuring the business is kept up to date with all matters relating to electricity markets (including existing/emerging power providers capabilities, regulatory changes, technology developments)
  • Ensure effective engagement with internal finance, legal, governance and asset stakeholders
  • Co-develop the business case and investment approval request in conjunction with the Business at a portfolio level

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative individual, team oriented and results focused with a demonstrated track record in complex problem solving in the face of ambiguity and delivering successful outcomes within a timely manner.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in electricity, energy or power markets
  • Tertiary qualification in a discipline with a strong quantitative methods component (logistics, supply chain, mathematics, engineering, computing, finance or marketing),
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements within the Western Australia energy and national electricity markets
  • Execution and management of renewable PPAs, with a sound knowledge of technical and commercial issues/risks associated with these
  • Although not necessary, experience in the development and implementation of energy transition strategies and familiarity with long storage duration technologies would be advantageous
  • Ability to work unsupervised and manage a significant portfolio base
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, influencing and interpersonal skills, essential to building constructive relationships and credibility with diverse stakeholders
  • 1SAP system and process knowledge desired
  • Critical thinking and reasoning skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous and evolving market landscapes
  • Ability to quickly adapt to technical concepts
