The Opportunity – Permanent, Full-Time Position

The position of Principal- Procurement, Major Projects will be responsible for leveraging project procurement capabilities to guide the sourcing of goods and services relating to major capital projects across the South32 Operations (specifically focused on Major Projects West) and portfolio to increase productivity, lower costs, manage risks and unlock organisational value safely and sustainably.

Reporting to the Manager Major Projects & Procurement key role accountabilities include:

  • Lead contract and procurement strategy planning for Major Projects and Studies within Major Projects West
  • Drives cross-functional outcomes through collaborative engagement and influencing underpinned by deep sourcing expertise and end-to-end category and contract management
  • Ensures that the Projects and business’ needs strategically match the market, while maintaining optimal cost, surety of supply and managing risk and opportunities
  • Responsible for supplier development and management to drive and upskill local capability in line with jurisdictional requirements
  • Drives total cost of ownership principles to integrate project outcomes with ongoing and new business requirements at an organisational level
  • Works collaboratively with our Projects teams and Operations to develop and maintain a robust Sourcing Plan, while addressing the future needs of the business
  • Ensure that contract documents are prepared for execution in accordance with the South32 Standards and that relevant functional approvals are obtained as required
  • Responsible for the identification, mitigation, and monitoring of risks within the function
  • Commercial ownership of all spend for West projects, goods and / or services to ensure business continuity and optimal commercial outcomes

About You

You will be required to have the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Commercial/ Supply/Mining/Capital intensive industry experience preferred
  • Preferred 5 years strategic sourcing experience
  • Strong Projects experience in developing commercial strategies and leading high value strategic negotiations. Strong understanding of civil & projects markets
  • Sound understanding of Project concepts to analyse and maximize commercial contracting outcomes, with a strategic and enterprise outlook.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Construction contracts and application.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Project, Commerce, Finance, Engineering or related disciplines

Location

This role will preferably be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD, however we can accommodate a diverse range of candidates requirements. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)
