About the role:
We are looking for a Principal Production Engineer for our Rio Tinto Cooper technical and strategic mine planning function. Get involved in key projects for the world’s largest underground block cave mine, Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia. You will play a key leadership role in the team focused on production forecasting, reconciliation, mid-range coordination and production governance and assurance.

Reporting to the Manager Geoscience Studies, you will:
- Participate in establishing design constraints
- Anticipate internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues
- Recommend process, product, or service improvements
- Ensure the optimality and quality of company mine plans and forecasts through development of effective guidelines, coaching and quality assessment/quality control processes
- Provide careful and well thought-through assessments and communication of mining risks
- Work closely with the Finance team to provide accurate information for operational and business decision making
- Analyse business plans and identifies mining improvement and innovation areas
- Provide technical support to making decisions
- Balance key safety, business, operational, and geotechnical constraints to deliver value
- Determine root cause of bottlenecks in execution, caving, and/or resource/reserve in collaboration with the value chain
- Resolve complex problems for the underground Oyu Tolgoi Caving operation
- Responsible for carrying out engineering tasks and providing technical advice, in one or more of the following areas: materials handling, reserve calculations, ventilation, project engineering, and regulatory compliance
- Develops and applies engineering standards and procedures and provides advice on issues, including problem solving and the assessment of new technologies
What you will bring
Minimum Requirements:
- Mining Engineering Degree
- Demonstrated specialist skills through:
- Operational, Study, and Execution experience for Underground Caving Operations
- Experience in multiple caving operations to compare orebody characteristics with key design and risk parameters
- Preferably multiple sites with long histories of demonstrated caving performance
- Experience supporting robust risk management practices
- Experience in large capital projects with high quantities of stakeholders
- Experience in annual resource and reserves reporting

Where you will be working
The Rio Tinto Copper group is a global organisation with operations and projects in the U.S. (Kennecott Utah Copper, "RTKC", and Resolution Copper Project), Mongolia (Oyu Tolgoi), Simandou (Guinea) and Western Australia (Winu Cu-Au project). The portfolio also includes interests in a non-managed joint venture in Chile, in addition to exploration & evaluation interests and other minor investments.
This role is based in Brisbane. We offer a flexible working arrangement with a balance of office-based and work from home. You will have the opportunity to travel on a periodic basis to Mongolia to visit the Oyu Tolgoi site.
