About the Role

As Principal Project Controls for BMA Major Shutdowns Group (MSD), you will lead a team of project cost & schedule specialists throughout the planning and execution phases of major Dragline and Shovel shutdowns, supporting our Bowen Basin Operations. You will enable a high-performing team through demonstrating best-practice technical project controls expertise. As a working lead you will also provide support to the Project Controls Specialist role, where you will constantly drive for continuous improvement – Seeking Better Ways. This role is Brisbane based, Monday to Friday offering flexible work arrangements and holds the following key accountabilities:  

  • Foster an inclusive team culture of care where team members feel safe, enabled & engaged.
  • Lead & coach in field leadership routines, displaying operating discipline through timely & adequate completion of assigned actions 
  • Develop & enhance project controls processes, tools and dashboards to enable streamlined and efficient ways of working.
  • Lead in the development and monitoring of schedules and cost control process, analising and identifying waste trends to optimise and influence on-time delivery of the project’s objective/s. Right work, Right Time.
  • Lead periodic benchmarking exercises to identify improvement opportunities and capitalise on lessons-learnt, in pursuit of shutdown best-practice.
  • Lead in the development of 2Y budgets/5Y Planning, tracking commitments, estimation of accruals, monitoring the impact of scope change, and completion of end-of-month submissions. 
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive customer engagement and receiving feedback. Develop and enhance an effective systemised communication process for all stakeholders.
  • Manage escalations ensuring resolutions are provided in timely manner. 
  • Unlock team potential by driving improvement through BOS routines. Discover training needs and provide coaching to team members to ensure personal growth and career development.

About You

You will have:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a business/engineering/trade-related discipline or demonstrated equivalent business experience.

  • Demonstrated experience and success in team leadership roles.

  • Advanced Excel, MS Project, Power BI and SAP skills will be highly regarded.

  • Strong problem-solving skills including organising and analyzing multiple data sources.

  • Strong desire for continual improvement and simplification through innovation.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), collaboration and interpersonal skills and able to work autonomously

  • Previous commercial, project management or shutdown experience in coal mining, resources or oil and gas industry would be well regarded.
