ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a Permanent position on a 9-day fortnight. Based at our Worsley Alumina Refinery, it’s a short drive from Collie (15 minutes), Bunbury (45 minutes) and other nearby scenic communities.

As the Principal Research Scientist, you will be responsible for identifying and delivering technology development initiatives that support and enhance the value of Worsley assets through improved operating stability, sustainability, and cost. This is enacted through a pipeline of projects focusing on process chemistry improvements that deliver long term value to the asset.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Develop and execute research plans to evaluate and recommend chemical process improvements
  • Provide expert technical recommendations for enhancing refinery operations, production, and quality
  • Identify and assess future production creep, decarbonization and sustainability opportunities, and propose actionable recommendations
  • Maintain industry and university partnerships to leverage the latest technology and research

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Expert knowledge in alumina refining or similar hydrometallurgical processes, including at least one area of specialised experience
  • Proven track record of successfully problem-solving technical chemistry issues
  • Proven experience in applied research and supervising technical teams
  • Experience in plant operations, process engineering, project implementation, and economic analysis
  • Proven ability building and sustaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders and external research organisations

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, or similar tertiary qualification i.e. Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy – (Required)
