About the Role

As a Principal Solution Architect, you will play a key role supporting the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) systems that fundamentally change BHP’s performance across safety, productivity and people performance. A part of the Enterprise & Global Technology function, the HSE team is accountable for the end-to-end delivery and ownership of the global HSE systems.

The Principal Solution Architect will be critical in the embedment and integration of Off-the-shelf solutions into our landscape. Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical expertise and guide the team on the architectural and software design of a solution. You will work closely with all product members to create a modular, scalable, reusable solution that addresses future software and architectural changes in line with BHP architectural standards, governance frameworks and emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defines and manages functional and non-functional requirements that consider business expectations for the system and operational concepts.
  • Develops and selects effective design solutions, works with relevant vendors/stakeholders to procure products, and provides design expertise to inform selection.
  • Develops a system integration strategy/plan, assembles and integrates systems accordingly.
  • Provides specialist advisory on BHP architectural standards, governance frameworks and emerging technologies.
  • Enhancing user experience by improving usability, accessibility and desirability of a design solution.
  • Determines the underlying cause of problems and evaluates multiple solutions to ensure a planned and structured approach to solving complex problems.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field like Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics or related field required. Advanced degree is a strong plus.
  • Significant experience in developing integration architecture for a brownfields systems landscape.
  • Significant experience in embedding third party applications into an existing complex brownfields systems landscape.
  • Significant experience architecting, designing and building software applications.
  • Understanding of IT and operational technology (OT) from a design, implementation and run perspective.
  • Over 5 years’ experience in an architecture role as a senior architect.
  • TOGAF and Cloud Architect certification.
  • Positive attitude to support the business.
  • Self-driven individual with the ability to handle large technically complex projects utilising time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability: both business and technical level. Able to work collaboratively to resolution with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker, open to new ideas and assists in defining direction.
  • Effective communicator, with solid interpersonal and analytical decision making.
  • Experience in Agile Development.
  • Understanding of holistic custom software development technical practices, frameworks and tools.
  • Strong understanding of holistic enterprise architecture and interplay of analytical components with enterprise foundational components (data architecture/governance, security, etc.)
