About Olympic Dam and Oak Dam
We are seeking exceptional candidates to help the Olympic Dam region unlock value for generations to come. There is an opportunity at Olympic Dam to increase copper production through efficient expansion of the current underground mine and surface processing plant. As well as the potential integration of BHP’s new mine, Oak Dam, into a regional portfolio of mines.
Oak Dam is a potential greenfield mining project, located approximately 65 km south-east of Olympic Dam. Advanced exploration works are underway and planned to increase substantially in the near term. In parallel to the drilling program Oak Dam will progress into an Identification Phase Study to select options for orebody extraction.
About the Role
In this role, you will be central in shaping the future of Olympic Dam and Oak Dam through the creation of strategic Infrastructure plans, adoption of technology, and development of underpinning assumptions and risks to these projects.
To achieve this, we are actively seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Strategic Infrastructure Planning team. This team’s purpose is to unlock value by linking resource engineering and processing strategy outcomes with divergent infrastructure strategies for implementation into capital project studies.
Accountabilities will include:
- Working collaboratively with the strategic processing and mine planning teams to solve complex problems and develop the most value accretive site and regional infrastructure strategies for the mine, processing plant and non-processing infrastructure/facilities.
- Manage large work packages executed by contracting partners to help answer strategic trade-off options for Olympic Dam, Oak Dam and region.
- Turn opportunities into strategy that can be communicated and turned into studies.
- Scanning the industry and staying at the forefront of operational knowledge and technical excellence for innovative strategic infrastructure technologies.
- Develop and maintain dynamic supply-demand simulation models for accommodation, NPI, transportation, logistics, as well as asset/regional water and power models.
- Drive change through clear and regular communication with cross-functional Superintendents, Managers and General Managers.
- Actively engage and influence operational and study teams to ensure alignment of mine infrastructure planning through major and minor studies.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers to ensure the team is delivering the highest quality strategic infrastructure outcomes.
About You
As a successful candidate you will possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in either Mining, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering or strong experience in mining project management - Major projects/Infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience within the mining industry will be highly regarded.
- Commercial acumen and demonstrated ability to understand business drivers.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with an ability to influence stakeholders and build cross functional team relationships.
- Understanding or experience of study management is desirable.
Location
In this full-time permanent position, you will be base at our Adelaide office and working on a Monday-Friday roster while some site visits as required.
